At our farm, it is first time blackberry. The six month old vine has profusely grown and the vine edges did shoot out some white flowers at first. Then they turned into green berries, which later blushed into beautiful baby pink. And yes, it is also supposed to go black soon for its namesake. But the pink is so inviting that we know the sunbirds are just waiting to plunder them. If we leave them for long, a British legend says that the devil will pee on the blackberries that are left for long.
When should we pick? OR should we just treat the birds? Should we wait for the British devils to pee? First-timers know too little to decide.
Anyhow for now, they are still there, looking like edible baby lips.
